Why We Started Laser Tech Cleaning Solutions and its Demand for Industrial Paint & Buildup Removal

Laser cleaning will become a necessary part of routine maintenance in manufacturing and production in years to come

The concept of Laser Tech Cleaning Solutions was birthed about 10 years ago.

Both Danny and myself were in high profile food manufacturing facilities in Canterbury, and Danny coming from a long history in mechanical engineering had happened across an article overseas regarding the use of laser in production and factories in Europe.

Just watching how quickly and efficiently the process of ablation could lift mostly anything from surfaces including removing industrial paint and buildup from large equipment- Danny could see that the application of this technology was almost limitless.

Danny was part of the maintenance teams for the annual Winter shuts and I was working in a downline facility within a high-level hygiene zone. The amount of cleaning that was going into multi-million-dollar equipment, not to mention conveyors that were nearly always wet was no joke.

The use of eco toxic and endo toxic chemicals could have been nearly almost completely eradicated with regular deep cleans from a laser machine. The amount

of buildup of gum and grime that would accumulate over almost 24/7 operations, the chemicals that were being used and the labour just could not eradicate it.

Everywhere we looked we could see how beneficial it would be not only to our own jobs but to manufacturing as a whole.

We touched base with a couple of companies in the UK and in Belgium and who told us the demand kept growing year on year for alternatives to traditional methods of sandblasting and wet processes as it improved the bottom line of larger scale business - mainly minimising health risks to workers and minimising waste in the process.

Back then, there was nothing really here in New Zealand, and nothing that we knew of here in Canterbury so it was going to be extra challenging bringing it to the market here. Convincing clients that this was the new way forward and how it could enhance the maintenance processes across large scale industries was going to require some next level grit.
